Changing Times
Ryan was excited. He had a surprise stop for Bianca, to see his old family home during their holiday. The icing on the cake would be lunch at his all-time favourite retro diner; 20 years ago when a student, the NoshPit had cheap tasty food.
But when they arrived at his old address, a modern monstrosity had replaced his house. Ryan was deflated.
“Hey, wait till you see where we’re going for lunch!”
“Exciting! I’m famished!”
Ryan’s face fell seeing a derelict diner that was once legendary.
“Such a shame! Hang on to the memories, let’s go get Thai instead.”

Yup, same thing happened to one of my family. At least in this story there was Thai as a back up plan B 🙂

We’ve had a few of our favourite restaurants close over the years but I suppose it forces us to be adventurous and try somewhere new. Great story. KL ♥️

Thank you KL Caley. We used to have Hamburger Heaven, Simple Cottage, and The Last Resort in Auckland…all favourites, back in the late 80s. We went back for a holiday in 2015…all long gone. As you say, it gives us a push to try something new 🙂

Thank you, Mason. After I wrote this, I thought of a few more places I used to go in Auckland. a favourite was The Last and First cafe and Just Desserts. Gone, but still remember those good times!

It’s always the special places that go first it seems.

The world changes but the good time memories remain for ever. I found this a very real story and I reckon most people can relate to a similar experience at some time in their lives.

I have some great memories of several of the places I’ve lived in. Going back might be a huge mistake!

Yes, going back isn’t always a good plan! We did a trip back to my family home and neighbourhood in June, thankfully nothing much had changed, gave me goosebumps! Our house is exactly the same on the outside. The real estate photos showed a different very modern story on the inside though. But still my old stomping ground 🙂

Dear Fleur,
I guess you can’t always go back. People change and so do places…not always for the better. Well done.

Rochelle
