New Views
The day was nearly done, the sunset leaving a pleasing orange glow against the darkening sky. Pat and Nelly Brown were feeling the newness of their apartment life.
“Turn the lights off. The colours really come to life. The boats are sparkling in the harbour.”
“So pretty! Not long now, Agnes will be here.”
“Mammy will love the view.”
“It’s a far cry from Dublin, but it’ll be a new place to call home.”
“For sure. Bridges, boats, Guinness, and sunsets. She’ll feel like a local.”
“Here’s to all of that.”
“Her piano could be a tight fit though…”
Thanks for reading
Dear Fleur,
Our son and daughter in law recently moved to a smaller apartment and had to give up their piano. Lovely story.

Thanks so much, Rochelle. That would be hard to give up something special for the move.

Perhaps a fiddle would do

Maybe they could get her an electronic keyboard? But if she’s like me, no keyboard would ever replace her beloved piano!

Thanks so much, Linda, I was thinking the same, but then I thought the piano had a better kick to it.

Great last line. Lovely scene with a full glimpse at a past life.

Thanks so much, Iain, Yay, I’m glad the last line worked, it was done quite late last night when my eyes wanted to shut. I think Agnes will manage quite well in her new surroundings.

A nice moving story for the prompt. I can see Agnes dragging her piano into customs at the airport!

Thanks, Mason, I can too,. She’d be giving the customs staff a run for their money while they search it for all manner of illegal stuff.

haha! The things she could hide in that grand piano!

The mind boggles! I think she could easily be related to Martha…

Hope she likes it, maybe a piccolo might be a compromise! Good stuff

Thanks so much! Yes, I think Agnes is the sort to get a good tune going, no matter what instrument.

I’m sure they find a solution for the piano. I chuckled about customs, too. Fun story.

True. Dublin it’s not. Which is why the Guinness. Well done, with or without piano. 🙂

Thanks, Bill 🙂
💯 Guinness is a must for settling in far from their Irish roots. Guinness is a must wherever one lives 🙂 I developed a liking for it when I was I
Visiting Dublin 3 yrs ago. I had to taste the real thing before I liked it.

I did actually replace a piano with a keyboard when I downsized. It’s not the same but better than nothing!

Thanks Keith, a portable keyboard is great for smaller places but not the same as a piano. Better than nothing, as you say. I’ve learned to play the ukulele, that’s the extent of my musical skills so far.

But it might fit… And this is a lovely story, Fleur.

Did both realize Mammy wasn’t coming for just a visit? Hoping they find a way to keep the piano.

It’s always the piano … 🙂 Though not a consolation, there’s always a keyboard.
