While we are on the topic of chocolate…

I will do a wide variety of recipes this year…it’s not all about the sweet treats. There will be a lot more great family recipes from Karoonda Area School in SA as well. My Karoonda School cookbook from the ’80s is packed with great recipes and tips.

So, I found my favourite chocolate slice recipe. This one is at the top of the list in our family, it was made many times over the years for special occasions or just because. Our family has said for over thirty years, it’s absolutely divine! It’s great in any season…in winter it goes well with a warming glass of port…

Chocolate Slice

1 cup self-raising flour

1 cup coconut

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup cocoa

2 Tablespoons golden syrup

150g butter or margerine

  1. Mix all ingredients together.
  2. Pour into a microwave-safe tray and cook for 3 minutes on Medium High.
  3. Ice while warm.

It is that simple!
