Friday Fictioneers – Write a 100-word story based on the Photo Prompt image above by © Rowena Curtin
Tabletop Dancing
Maria loved to entertain friends at her patio table.
One afternoon, several clouds joined together making an odd shape and colour. As the cloud moved to blanket most of the town, that night something unusual happened.
The cloud rumbled, and a spear of light landed on the table, the beam danced on the surface.
The next morning, Maria made her decaf coffee.
At the table, she felt the urge to finish a crossword, complete a jigsaw puzzle and read three novels before lunch.
It wasn’t the coffee, so what was happening?
Relishing in this new radiance, her visitors felt the same zest.
How long would it last?
Thanks for reading. I’ve hacked a 350-word story to bits that was published in the Warwick Daily News back in 2018, for this prompt!

Any of the friends who think they have a novel in them better get writing before it wears off

What a fun and fanciful tale surrounding this intriguing table and chairs, well done.

My goodness, three novels read before lunch. What was in the coffee? The beam certainly recharged her get up and go. A great idea.

Thanks so much, James. As soon as I saw the prompt I thought of the story I wrote 5 years ago for the paper. It was based on someone’s table that looked just like the one in the photo!

Is she sure it wasn’t the coffee? Or something in the coffee? Intriguing tale, F.

This is the condensed version of 350 words written 5 yrs ago. As soon as I saw the table I knew what I had to do. So it was chop chop chop…hack.. edit…reduce…down to 100!
I could imagine a storm overhead and lightning putting a spell on the table…weird I know!

It’s hard to chop down stories. Yet get to repurpose.
Love that storm image. Jinx the table!

Yes it was a real hack job!
Originally, the table was real, belonged to a local and sat on her patio. It was storm season and one idea led to another…
