Friday Fictioneers – Write a 100-word story based on the Photo Prompt image above by © Dale Rogerson
The Temp
Sally had a new job as a temp. Her placements had been a potpourri of challenges and variety. From a crazy call centre, taking and making calls to pitch rural broadband to farmers in the wop-wops, to community aged care. Today she was assigned to cleaning, shopping and cooking meals. How hard could that be?
The door opened revealing a small, stooped, white-haired woman.
“Yer late!”
“Hello, Vera, I’m Sal…”
“Never mind that!” she spat, eyeballing Sally.
“Best I come in then.” Sally stared back.
“Don’t go in the spare room!”
“Sally’s nose twitched. What was that smell?”
Thanks for reading

Ooh mysterious! I love the tone of the older lady, and the lingering secret of the back room. Could easily become a longer story. Well done.

Not sure she wants to know what that smell is. She might be looking for another job?

Possibly…but I think she’s got stickability with this new job. And yes, not sure she should find out the source of the smell…

What indeed, I dread to think! Nice one.

Maybe she should refuse this particular job!

I agree, but her determination might get in the way… thanks Dale 🙂

I might have to write a bit more…to see what she does…😉

Yoiks. I’d definitely think of somewhere else I needed to be.

Um, time to turn around and walk out. Crotchety old ladies is one thing, a mystery odor in an off-limits room is another.

Thanks so much Jade 🙂
💯 I’m sure there would be a policy for that…I hope Sally isn’t too curious.

Dear Fleur,
Perhaps Sally should consider running for her life. 😉
