This patchwork is all about colour, fabric, fibre, imagination, quirky creativeness, music, food, and dancing in the street…in other words…Jumpers and Jazz in July.

It’s back. It’s July, and the quirkiest winter festival in Queensland is underway.

Day 3 – the streets are decked out, the trees, buildings, statues, lamposts, and shop fronts, covered in arty crochet.  The tree jumpers are the signature of JJJ. It truly is a spectacular show.  We have so much going on, the program is packed with events, pop-up shops, concerts, street music and food, and the Suitcase Rummage – that’s one of my favourites.  That started off in a narrow alley, but its popularity grew so much, they close off the main street and hundreds of people meander from suitcase to suitcase to find a treasure.  Each stall holder must sell their wares from a suitcase.  And all the while the jazz plays. It’s a fabulous day. And there’s more – steam train rides, a high tea we went to this afternoon, the classic car show.  I’ll be doing a few blogs – there’s far too much to show to squeeze it into one.  Check out the programme here

I’ve only seen about a third of the tree jumpers, so I will be sharing my pick of all the colourful themes. More photos later. In case you are wondering about the photo above…the creation with the pink bra, is an armchair! With a corset at the back!
