I’m not sure if a predicament I found myself in this morning was a good thing or not.
I was out for a walk – it was a lovely morning, windy, fresh, good for blowing the cobwebs. It was about 21 degrees…perfect. I was contemplating what to do today to fill in the time before Monday, as I’ve not got a single thread of writing inspiration – nor for sewing – maybe I’ll read another chapter of my book – but Sunday’s are for accomplishing stuff. It’s my ‘me day’; reacquaint with my craft corner, potter about lazily, yet busily.
Anyway as I’m still cursing my creative blankness, and thinking I may as well go for a long walk – nothing else to do today – but probably not wise or I’ll wear myself out for the hectic week ahead.
Pop. A fictitious name appears randomly in an empty corridor in my head.
Pop…..Pop. Anther name. What?
POP. I start playing with the names – giving them nicknames.
BOOM. Suddenly the first name is a neighbour and she has three friends. What now?
A ChickLit story? Maybe. Yes.
By the time I’m walking back through the front gate like someone bursting to have a pee – must get writing because these girls are tapping their toes – but wait. it’s lunchtime.
So I’m heading to the kitchen to throw something together. There’s a black lady in our kitchen.
“What?”
“Feed me.”
Your bowl is full, Indy.”
“So?”
“You’re in the way, baby girl…”
“I know.”
“So…move?”
“No.”
Those golden eyes of hers work their hardest for some treats, but the vet said she’s a little chunky. Indy doesn’t like that word; her ears go back and she hisses.
I step over her. She moves, and changes position. It’s like playing chess with a cat. Kitchen chess with a cat. I think that could become a thing…but you read it here first.
Indy needs to lose a kilo. Just one kilo. And it can happen gradually. No crash diets or cold turkey. She prefers chicken, anyway. So dear Miss Indy is in the way, unimpressed and lunch is ready. Meanwhile, I’ve got two muses having a scrap in my head because one wants to start the story about the four women with a plan, of which I have no idea yet, but it involves travel, and some young people calling one of them old…and maybe a scuffle…and the other wants to write a rant about Indy!
Sometime later…Indy is now done, I’m pleased to say…see the previous rant. Now it’s time for the women to present themselves on my laptop. Is it still a chit-lit if the characters have grey/silver hair? Or is ‘Chick’ reserved just for the younger set? All this on an otherwise quiet, windy afternoon in my craft corner when I thought i had nothing to do today!
Also just quickly…I’ve given my craft corner page a zhoosh up and added a few bits and bobs. Have a poke around. I’ve got a few more ideas to add yet, so it’s a work in progress.
And…one more thing…on my Facebook page I have added some Irish cooking. and, as of today…Kevin Bacon with some tunes, goats, and insights.
Have a fab day! and keep walking – you never know what ideas will pop up!
Thanks for reading – Drop a comment – I value your feedback

I love how this rant reads like the story of a writer discovering some inspiration. I hope the story writes itself well for you. That craft corner will look great when finished too!

Thanks Mason, I’m glad it reads like that..that’s what I was hoping for. I went from empty to a bowl full of popcorn. I’ve tried making notes as I go on my notepad app, but it doesn’t understand my Kiwi accent!! No matter how much I enunciate!
Yes that story is a WIP. It’ll be like a jigsaw puzzle.. putting it together ๐

I had the same accent issue when I tried to dictate. So frustrating isn’t it.
I love that you have this growing idea for the WIP though, good luck.
